Vikings Open Conference Play With Two Wins


Vernon, TX-  After a 17 day stretch of being rained out, Grayson softball got on the right side of the scoreboard twice on  Saturday afternoon winning their conference openers at Vernon College.  The Vikings took game one 10-2 and used some late inning heroics from Baylee McBrannon and Cailyn Cunningham to win game two 4-3.

 

Shelby Fleming had a big game one knocking four hits in Grayson's 10-2 victory. Fleming doubled in the first, tripled in the second, doubled in the sixth, and doubled in the seventh.  Grayson got on the board in the first inning when Danielle Humphrey delivered a rbi single.

 

The Vikings added four runs in the sixth inning to put the game away off rbi hits from Morgan Lewis, Shelby Fleming, and Alexus White.

 

Kylie Williams earned the victory in the circle for Grayson. She lasted all seven innings, allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out seven and walking zero.

 

Grayson racked up 11 hits in the game. Fleming and Humphrey each collected four hits to lead the Vikings.

 

The Vikings took game two 4-3 on Saturday after taking the lead late in the game.

 

Down 3-2 in the top of the sixth with two outs, Grayson got back to back clutch hits starting with a rbi triple from Baylee McBrannon and followed two pitches later with the go ahead rbi double off the bat of Cailyn Cunningham.

 

Olivia Gutierrez earned the win for the Vikings. She went five innings, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out five and walking zero. Kylie Williams threw two innings in relief. Williams recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Grayson.

 

Alexus White went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Grayson College in hits.
